We know it can be hard to continue to come up with interesting things to keep children and teens entertained throughout the entire summer. Thankfully, our city is extremely family friendly. Just another reason we love it. Well parents, we’ve got you covered. Here is a list of some of our favorite activities for kids in Surrey BC (some of them are even free!):

Aura Movie Night in the Park

August 23rd, 2015 at 7:30PM at Newton Athletic Park (South Casual Field) – Round up the family, break out the lawn chairs and enjoy a movie under the stars compliments of Aura Orthodontics. The Surrey orthodontic clinic hosts the free family-friendly celebration every year to show appreciation to its patients, their families and the community.

Surrey Night Market

Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 6-11 p.m. through September 20, 2015 – The Surrey Night Market is a multicultural, family-friendly event and draws a crowd from all parts of the Mainland. Attendees can check out tons of vendors with a slew of foods, goods and services and rock out to performances by area bands, singers and dancers, while kids can enjoy rides and games.

Swimming Lessons

Days and Times Vary – Take the kiddos to the Newton Wave Pool or the awesome new Guildford Recreation Centre and sign them up for swimming lessons. Stay tuned for the new South Surrey Community Pool, which is currently under construction. Are your offspring already excellent swimmers? Swing by the Newton Wave Pool on the second Sunday of each month for a free swim from 6 to 8 p.m., sponsored by Westminster Savings.

#Digital Art

Multiple Days and Times through August 14 – The Surrey libraries started #DigitalArt for teens. Attendees get to use fully-loaded IdeaLAB Macbooks to learn photo manipulation, digital drawing, painting and more in one-hour workshops at the different libraries. Be sure to check out the schedule. It’s the perfect way for teens to get creative on a digital canvas.

Storytimes

Days and Times Vary, Held at Surrey Libraries – This is another cool program from the Surrey libraries. Little ones, from babies to school-aged children, can listen to stories, sing songs, play games and make friends. Check out the schedule to find the storytime that works for you and your family. Offerings include Babytime, Toddler Time, Preschool Storytime, School Age Storytimes, French Storytime and more.

Nature Play Program

Saturdays, 9:30–10:30 a.m. (ages 3-5) and 11 a.m.- noon (ages 6-12) throughout the summer at the Surrey Nature Centre at Green Timbers – This weekly drop-in program is the ideal way to get kids in touch with nature in Surrey, B.C. The program leader engages children in play through nature arts, exploring, storytelling and games. Parent participation is required.

Surrey Arts Centre

Various Events; Located in Bear Creek Park – Give your children a dose of culture with a visit to the Surrey Arts Centre in Bear Creek Park. The Surrey Art Gallery is a major public art museum, which hosts exhibits and activities for all ages, while performing arts shows and concerts are held year-round at the Centre’s Main Stage and Studio Theatre. When you’re done at the Arts Centre be sure to take advantage of the outdoor pool, athletic fields, picnic spots, walking trails and miniature train at Bear Creek Park.

Cloverdale Youth Park

This new facility, situated at the northeast corner of 62 Avenue and Highway 15, is the place to be for kids and teens. It features a basketball/ball hockey court, an outdoor social space and an action sports plaza and bowl. The park was designed with skateboarding, BMX, ball hockey and basketball in mind.

Biking at Mud Bay Park

Mud Bay Park not only has incredible bird watching, the shoreline trails are perfect for a family bike ride. For a more intense workout with older children, take the dyke trail west, which will lead you into Delta and to Boundary Bay Regional Park.

Historic Stewart Farm

Located in Elgin Heritage Park, the Historic Stewart Farm is like an interactive history lesson for kids, teens and adults. The picturesque site captures the time between 1890 and 1920. Explore the 19th century farmhouse complete with costumed interpreters.
